Below are the overviews for each year group. You can see when specific areas of Maths will be covered throughout the year.

Multiplication tables

From Year 1 onwards, children are taught appropriate multiplication tables, in line with the National Curriculum. Below outlines the expectations for each group:

Year 1

Be able to count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10 and know doubles to 10, including corresponding halves.

Year 2

Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables.

Year 3

Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables.

Year 4

Recall and use multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12x12.

Year 5 and 6

Revision of all multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12x12.

Regular practise of multiplication tables is imperative if pupils are to be able to rapidly recall and apply this knowledge. You may choose to encourage your child to recite their multiplication tables, you may use quick fire questions with them, you may encourage them to write out their multiplication tables or practise using a number of online games (see the useful websites section).

Pupils will be tested weekly on their multiplication tables, beginning with the 2x table and will progress through the tables in order, before moving on to division facts.
