What are we learning this half term?

In Key stage 1, the children are focusing on Geography through 'Around the World'.  We will be looking at naming and locating continents and oceans and placing them on a world map. We will also find out about some famous landmarks and where they are located within the continents.

In science, the children will continue to look at seasons by identifying different seasons and the weather associated with them.  In computing, children will use a programme to conduct and create a pictogram.  In art, children will be making clay sculptures of houses by using different tools to create patterns and techniques.

Our English, our text is Omar, the bees and me by Helen Mortimer.  Using this as their inspiration, the children will be writing their own version of part of this story, incorporating a new character from their own imagination. They will also be writing letters to promote planting seeds to increase the number of bees.

In maths Year 1 and Year 2 will start by looking at measurements, by using standard and non-standard measurements.  Year 2 will then move on to multiplication and division by recalling the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables and Year 1 will be looking at place value to 50.

Author of the term:Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara
About the author:Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara is the author and creator of the inspirational best-selling series Little People, BIG DREAMS. Growing up in the ’70s in Barcelona, her heroines were Pippi Longstocking, Momo and Tinkerbell, and she felt great admiration for the Spanish poet Gloria Fuertes. She dreamed of becoming a poet just like her one day. It took Maria Isabel almost 40 years and most of her savings to make her dream come true. In 2012, after 20 years of working in advertising, she self-published her first book. Two years later, she released what was meant to be a birth present for her twin nieces, Alba and Claudia: the very first title in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series.
