We have three year 1/2 classes, these are Bakewell, Grindleford and Matlock.

What is our Enquiry Question for Spring Term 2025?
In Key stage 1, the children will be answering the enquiry question What makes the UK unique?
Our enquiry subject driver this for the Spring Term is Geography.
In English we are going to read the story Paddington's Post by Michael Bond.
We are going to make our own marmalade sandwiches and then write instructions telling other people how to make them.
We will write a character description, lists, postcards and fact files.
In Maths we are learning about to add and subtract, multiply and divide and how to measure using objects, and the standard units of (cm) centimetres and (m) metres.
In Geography we are going to be learning all about the UK.
We will learn to name and locate the countries, capital cities and seas of the UK.
We will learn about some of the characteristics of the UK and identify if they are human or physical features.
In Science, we are going to learn to about Winter and Spring and identify the changes that happen.
Then we will learn about the stages of human life, healthy eating and ways of staying healthy.
In Design Technology , we will design and make our own fabric puppet. Learning how to thread a needle and complete a running and back stitch.
In History, we will learn about Queen Victoria and some of the achievements that happened during her reign, comparing Queen Victoria's achievements to those of Queen Elizabeth II.
In RE , we will learn about the Muslim faith. We will hear some stories of Islam, including Tiny Ant's, Muhammad and the Camel and Bilal the first Muezzin.
In PSHE our focus is how to be safe, we will identify who is a trusted adult and what to do in an emergency.
We will also learn about road safety and how to stay safe in the home.
In Spring 2 we will learn about the importance of money and what skills people might need to complete different jobs.
In Music, we will be learning to find and keep a steady beat, find a simple rhythm and to copy patterns. We will also learn how to move in time to a steady beat and develop our performing skills.
In Computing, we will familiarise ourselves with typing on a keyboard and begin using tools to change the look of our writing, then we will consider the differences between using a computer and writing on paper to create text.
In Spring 2 we will make patterns and use those patterns to make music with both percussion instruments and digital tools, creating different rhythms and tunes using the movement of animals for inspiration.
