Welcome to Year 1 and Year 2. 

We have three classes in Key Stage one, these are  Hope (Year 1), Grindleford (Year 2) and Matlock (Year 2).

What is our Enquiry Question for Summer Term 2026? 

In Key stage 1, the children will be answering the enquiry question What makes us thrive?

Our enquiry subject driver this for the Summer Term is Art. 

In English we are going to read the book The Extraordinary Gardener. 

We are going to be writing a senses poem, an explanation, a narrative and a biography. 

In Maths Year 2 are learning all about shape, time and measures.

In Maths Year 1 are learning about multiplication and division, fractions, money and 

In Art, we are going to be learning about primary and secondary colours, We are going to explore the work of Yayoi Kusama and create work in her style. 

In Science, we are going to learn to about the different parts of flowers and trees. We are going to identify and name different trees, garden and wild plants.                                    

In RE , we will learning about sacred buildings for Christians and about religious texts for Christians, Jews and Muslims. We will also be listening to different stories and discussing their meaning. 

In PSHE we will be looking at how to be healthy and how to be responsible.

In Design Technology we are going to design and make a fruit kebab.
