What are we learning this half term?
Our over-arching question for the Summer term is: How far have we come?
We will begin our learning this half term by delving into Anglo Saxon and Viking history on our shores. Finding out what changed in Britain after the Romans left, and what legacy the Anglo Saxon and Viking lives still influence modern day Britain.
In English we will start by using 'The National Trust Guide to Sutton Hoo' as our inspiration. We will dig into the history of this world famous archaeological site and discover more about the mysterious Anglo Saxon Warrior King buried here. Using our knowledge we will then create non-chronological reports about the site and the unique finds discovered there.
In the second half term we will turn our attention to the Vikings and their Norse Myths. Using the book 'Norse Myths: Tales of Odin, Thor and Loki' as our inspiration we will be creating a narrative retell of one of these epic stories and also creating a fact file about some of the Norse Gods.
In Science we are switching our focus to how humans develop and change of their lifetime. Linking our knowledge of life cycles, we will look more closely at the life stages of humans.
We will then go on to look at evolution.
In Maths, Y5 will begin with place value (numbers up to 1,000,000), then moving on to addition and subtraction (up to four digit numbers) before developing our understanding of multiplication and division.
Y6 will also begin with place value (numbers up 10,000,000), before a focus on the four operations.
Swimming
Y5 and Y6 will both participate in swimming lessons this year. These take place during the school day at Queens Park Sports Centre. All children will have 20 sessions, and these are spread across the year.
More details will follow shortly about when each class will be swimming.

About the author: | I am a modern day author living in Surrey, but when I’m writing I can be living at anytime and anywhere in the world – which is what makes being a writer so much fun– although of course there’s lots of hard work involved too. Centuries and places I’ve visited on my writing travels so far include :
