Nursery (Hope)
Welcome to Nursery
Mrs Hermiston is the Class Teacher and Mrs Hall is the Teaching Assistant.
Nursery is a fundamental learning time for all children.
Early Years education is the foundation for learning positive behaviours and understanding expectations for learning in school and also to help develop social skills with other children and adults.
We have an open door policy if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask in person or send a message on Seesaw.
If you are unsure if you have a login for Seesaw please let us know and we can get this sorted asap.
What are we learning about this term?
Our enquiry question for the Spring 2025 term is 'What makes our community special?'.
The driver subject is Understanding the World – The Natural world, People, Culture and Communities.
The children will learn:
- There are different countries in the world.
- There are differences between countries.
- The name of the town in which they live.
- The names of different features and objects in their immediate environment.
- How to use questions to find about the place where they live and the natural world.
Literacy/Phonics
Our focus is on Phase 1 phonics, tuning in to sounds, rhymes and songs. This phase concentrates on the children’s listening and speaking skills too, all of which are the foundations to become super readers, as they progress through school.
We follow a phonics scheme called Little Wandle Foundations, which focuses on the following aspects.
• Rhyming words.
• Syllables within words.
• The first sound that words begin with.
• The sounds within words (for example, knowing that the word ‘cat’ is made of the sounds c-a-t).
Maths
In maths we will be counting to 5 using different methods. We will sing number rhymes, counting out objects one at a time. We will be learning the skill of subitising (Recognising how many objects there are without the need to count them) and we will be looking at the composition of numbers.
We will explore height, length and capacity.
