Welcome to Year 1 and Year 2. 

 

We have three year 1/2 classes, these are  Bakewell, Grindleford and Matlock.

What is our Enquiry Question for Summer Term 2025? 

In Key stage 1, the children will be answering the enquiry question  How is my portrait a reflection of me?

 

Our enquiry subject driver this for the Spring Term is Art. 

 

In English we are going to read the story Dandylion by Lizzie Finlay 

 

 

We are going to be showcasing why we are all unique and to re-tell the story.

 

We will also be looking into kennings based on animals linking to our science topic - Living things and their habitats. 

 

In Maths we are learning about recognising and counting money and fractions - Year 1: 1/2 and 1/4. Year 2: 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 3/4 

 

 In Art we are going to be learning all about portraits focusing on Pablo Picasso and Frieda Kahlo. 

 

 We are looking into the artists art styles, facial features and then combining these skills to create a self-portrait.           

 

In Science, we are going to learn to about summer and identify the changes that happen.

Then we will learn about Living things and their habitats. 

                                     

In History, we will learn about significant people who have impacted society, for example Martin Luther King, Malala Yousafzai and Greta Thunberg. 

 

In RE , we will learn about the sacred places and Judaism.  

 

In PSHE we will be looking at growing up and changes.
