How will we support your child’s emotional and social wellbeing?

How will we support your child’s emotional and social wellbeing?

We recognise that some children have extra emotional and social needs that need to be developed and nurtured. These needs can manifest themselves in a number of ways, including behavioural difficulties, anxiousness, and being uncommunicative.

All classes follow a structured PSHE built into the curriculum to support this development. However, for those children who find aspects of this difficult we offer:

Nurture Room

The Nurture room is available to ‘chill out’ at break and lunchtime for students who benefit and enjoy a calm atmosphere rather than going outside.

Nurture

Small group sessions provide children with opportunities to develop personal, emotional and social skills. Trained staff aim to develop pupil confidence, and self-esteem in a secure, caring environment.

Positive Play

Either for 1-1 or in pairs, pupils have the opportunity for a little ‘down time’ away from the busy classroom where they can enjoy a relaxing environment, chatting with a familiar adult and developing social, emotional and personal skills.

Family Resource Worker

We have a dedicated TA who is our Family Resource Worker (FRW) in school, Miss Whitbread. She has specialist training in emotional and social wellbeing. As she is not assigned to a specific class, she can response to pupils across the school as needed. She also works closely with parents to provide advice and support with home routines, attendance and behaviour.
