Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Children who attend our Nursery or Reception Classes are in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We currently provide Early Years Education for 3 and 4-year-old's in our F1 Ducklings Class.

Please contact Ms Paula Molyneux, our FS1 teacher, for more information on 01246450601.

It is our aim to provide the highest quality care and education for all our children, providing a strong foundation for the next stage of learning and future academic success.

Four statutory guiding principles define our Early Years practice at Dunston:

Every child is unique, all our children are constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Our children learn to be strong and independent by building positive relationships with others and by having positive relationships modelled by key adults they work closely with.

Our children will learn and develop successfully in an enabling environment, that values their interests and promotes curiosity.

Teaching and support from skilled adults, who are able to respond to those individual interests and needs will ensure our pupils build their learning over time.

Strong partnerships between staff, parents and other agencies are crucial to early child development and providing each child with the very best start.

The three Prime areas of EYFS learning and development are particularly important for building a firm foundation for life-long learning.   They encouraging curiosity and enthusiasm, support pupils in forming positive relationships and allow them to thrive:

• communication and language

• physical development

• personal, social and emotional development

EYFS learning and development also has four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied:

• literacy

• mathematics

• understanding the world

• expressive arts and design
